I have checked both flipper coils resistance and all seems correct, however the right fipper is weak. I have even unsoldered the EOS switch and it still the same.
My next test is to solder the left switch to the right flipper, anyone else have any ideas?

The end of stroke switch needs to be clean and touching and only open when the flipper is at full stroke.   If all that is right you might need to rebuilt the flippers as sloppy parts will give you weak flippers

Yep.... 9 times out of 10 though its the end of stroke switch with too much tension, not enough, dirty etc.

Do you feel more resistance in the problematic flipper ? Switch the game off and check if there is any physical reason why there is a problem.

Did have a problem like this - Found the coil brackets werent lined up which caused the coil plunger to be very slightly out of alignment - Felt ok by hand but when full power applied flipper had no power. Refer pict

Try swapping the coil and brackets complete with the other flipper.

Also, clean the cabinet switches (flippers) with a fine file or 180 Grit sandpaper. Check to see if the contacts on these switches are not worn, or missing.

thanks for all the comments

this morning, I looped a wire replacing the EOS switch and it worked. Therefore as you all said is correct , something in the switch. I then pulled the flipper mechanism all apart and and fixed 30 years of dodgey work. I pulled the EOS apart and ground the faces. All seems fine with it know. Other problems on the machine to follow

to currently play the game I simply push the button on the coin box. I want to get it back to coin operated. I have played around with the mechanism and it all seems to work, however the front pushbutton still also activates it.

also, the relay (coin ejector) that stays powered when the machine is on only moves around 2mm (when turned off). Is this normal, the system seems too sensitive.

Chances are that the Credit Decrease coil has been disconnected... its the easiest way to make an EM operate from the front button only.

Check the credit wheel in the back box... should have 2 coils.. one increases credits.. other decreases

so when its operates correctly, by adding coins, increases the credit wheel, then you push the coin panel start button to start. the game starts and the credit is reduced by one?

I did remove and have a look a the credit unit, when its gets to around 7 credits there is a pin that tries to bend the contacts. the wheel i think goes up to about 16. But there is no way the pin would get past 7 or 8. is this normal?
