ACDC 161 flasher swapout to LEDs
« on: August 18, 2012, 01:17:34 PM »
This morning I swapped out the standard 161 flashers on my ACDC to the LED 161 flashers.  I am impressed with the difference and the LED is so bright (camera does not pick up very well) it will literally blind you like welding flash if you stare at it.

Thanks to Greg (RTBB) for getting them in and listing on his site.
Available at http://www.rtbb.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3201&osCsid=0dd88b32d20038cd80634e8417637a88

I took a quick video (not up to Pete / Gorgar's standard) but you get the idea.

Neat! I am not sold on LEDS for everything, but they are a great, easy to do mod for many applications.

Starting to LED the house lights, inspired by pinball!!

Had the same issue with some I got early on - the base seems to have a slight taper to it, so they come loose. Really stupid design flaw. The versions RTBB have are different and don't have this issue, must be different manufacturer.

Good luck with that.. unless you are replacing Dichroic down lights youd be throwing your money away..

20W CCFL.. $3.50 from Bunnings.. light output 1500 Lumens
16.6W LED bulb.. draws 20W +/- 10%... $30.. light output 900 Lumens

No issues thus far with either the LED 161's or the standard 161s popping out.

However you may be hitting the targets a lot more than me..   *)*

I put 3leds behind the lighthing bolts, and yes they do work there way out. I bent the contact
wire out a bit on each side and they seem to stay in a lot better. Also adjusted the middle bracket
so the light sits a little to the side of the lightning bolt.

Led strip next hooked to the pop bumper flashes, cheap, easy and very effective

Did you have 161's or 906's in yours Pete?

Anyway it got a good workout today, actually managed to hit the targets a handful of times over about 15 games and no globes popping out.  The LEDs are a nice snug fit.

Yeah I had 906's in to be honest I've never heard of 161's?

Hi Pete,

Nup, stayed in 100%.  I think I've even hit the targets a few times too.

As far as I'm aware 906's are not designed to go into those particular lamp sockets.  Although the voltages are close (between a 161 & 906) the sockets are different.  That is more likely the reason the 906's were popping out.

I gave a set to Richy Rich so hopefully he had a similar result.
