Firepower Repaint and New Playfield
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:40:21 PM »
Thanks to Gav I have some nice new stencils, and a solid cabinet ready for a repaint.

Now I'm no Spamways.  I haven't got the patience or skill to return a game to new in his inimitable fashion.

My aim is, as Sheldon recently described a part of his anatomy, to produce something that is "functional and aesthetically pleasing"......

Here's some pics of the "artistic" efforts of a former owner........

I'd started by sanding the paint from the head box back to timber, but the "house" paint they'd used seemed would respond well to some paint stripper, so I gave that a go.

Would you look at the condition of the original artwork under that mess!! Sheesh!!

After priming on with the black.

Discovered that black is a bugger to work with, but perseverance got me there.

Here's the paint my brother suggested.

Sprays really well, dries in minutes, and covers very, very nicely.

One day I'll learn to use an airbrush, but the results using a quality aerosol are very good, so motivation to invest in a unit and learn isn't very high.

First set of stencils for the red have been applied.

You can see the registration crosses that Gav has built into these to make locating the second colour (yellow) easier.

On with the headbox, which has the nice backglass I recently sourced.

I have not long ago finished the playfield swap, so I enjoyed sliding it into a cabinet that was now up to the playfield standards.

Stencils worked a treat Gav. The registration Crosses are a great help. Top job mate!!

Wow! Enemy Destroyed.
Great job, this is one of my top 10 favourites, good to see another one lives again.

Nice job mate - You should be very pleased with your efforts. Now you have matching cabinet / backglass / playfield - which is a great effort to bring together.

Gav was telling me that some people didn't like the registration crosses. I can't figure out HOW anyone can do without them ?
