AFM Discontinued parts 3D printed

I thought this was worthy of a mention as it could aid some AFM owners.

Just wanted to share this with the community.

A few of the martian brackets for AFM are no longer available online; I decided to try out 3D printing as an alternative. I found an excellent shop online.. their prices are based on the size of the part, making 3D printing ideal for small parts. This is especially ideal for parts that are hidden, and not seriously load bearing.

So I've set up an online shop where anyone can buy these parts if they need to. I've only designed martian bracket #3 and #4 but I will design the other two shortly. #3 and #4 were a proof of concept and they turned out perfectly.

I don't set these prices, it's based on the material used to make the part. You can choose another material.

Planning on doing a few more parts such as the saucer coil cover. My guess is the coil cover will cost about 50 based on the size.

I have done a little bit of 3D printing and it is very cheap as the prices have come down so much as basic decent 3D printer starts at around $3k like the makerbot which prints layers of ABS plastic melting the plastic from a spool into a shape.

great that the guy isn't trying to get rich off people


Ben Heck and Jpop also use one to pro to type and trial different post designs etc so allows developing fast on the day not draw up, send away and wait 1-4 weeks for someone to make and then doesn't fit.

I have wanted one for a while.....

I don't own this game but its great to see people putting the time and effort into making parts that would otherwise be unavailable.

I was reading that they can now (on a high end 3D printer) print metal and titanium - incredible

A mate of mine bought a low quality one of these things to play with - he did make some gears and bits and pieces - absolutely fascinating to watch it build up the piece.

Great idea to 3D print these where only plastic is needed; as this technology becomes more and more affordable it will make larger parts very cost-effective.
