Rob, my TZ occasionally does the same thing, I know for sure that it hits the rubber on the post beside the skill shot, I'm not too concerned about it but I could use a smaller rubber ring to fix the problem.
Maybe you could try the same or as James stated try losening the plunger bracket and re-aligning
