Sealing a backglass
« on: December 25, 2008, 10:27:44 AM »
Christmas morning - been awake since 5:05am thanks to my youngest child.....so time to sneak some 'net before the day gets really going!

Well I'm in the very final stages of my 1958 Gottlieb Universe restoration and rebuild. I have a reproduction backglass that is about to go in the game but want to seal it first. Backglass came from the Shay Group: http://www.pinballpal.com/shay/

Restoration page at: http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=374.0

So what have you guys used in the past to seal your backglasses?

The old Krylon Triple thick seems to be the fav.

Problem with sealing a BG is that there are many things out there that will do the job, but not many that have been done 10 years ago to prove they stand the test of time.
Polyurathane works but yellows over time.
Clear coat works but you got to test the CC against the inks used for compatability - tons of CC products out there - not all compatible

Krylon - been on the market for ages. tried and tested

Triple Thick works the best.

In your case - I'd email the Shay Group as they would have had this question posed to them several times. See what they recommend.
