Slow lazy flipper action
« on: May 12, 2011, 03:48:23 PM »
I have a flipper that worked fine and after a few games started to move slowly to not at all. After a power off for awhile, I worked ok then started to slow up etc etc. Today I powered on and it's moving slow from the beginning. It does reach full stroke on occasions and can be held there. I've checked for any binding and seems ok. I also tried pressing the flipper while the pf was up and saw it labour in it's movement and when I gave it a little assistance it seemed to energize quickly and get to end if stroke.

Any ideas?

what machine is it on?
i would check the eos switch and the coil itself. depending on what machine its it may have one or two windings (2 tabs is one winding, 3 tabs is 2 windings). if it has 2 windings then the hold winding is working fine but the high power winding is not working

Hi beaky, it's a non fliptronics style. T2 machine, it has 3 tabs. So are you saying the coil is stuffed? If so should I also check the eos before replacing to avoid stuffing the new one?

I think he is saying check the EOS switch first. Appears that HP stroke is missing. Could be as simple as a dirty EOS switch.

Just make sure the eos is closing and opening properly and check that it is not badly pitted or worn out. There is no harm in replacing the eos at the same time as the coil. also make sure the yellow capacitor is soldered on properly also, this capacitor helps to extend the life of the eos.

And +1 on retropin's comment, could just be full of gunk.

yep, its like putting an egg in a leaky radiator to fix your car. It might help it for a while but it will end up clogging everything  up with crap.  *.*

Did all the checks and pulled out the coil. Found I couldn't get the sleeve out. Figured I had got real hot. Replaced coil and all good at the moment. Thanks for the suggestions
