GTB System 80 2nd Gen assistance, please.
« on: April 21, 2013, 09:44:34 PM »
I just couldn't help myself, the WMS Space Shuttle PF swap is wearing me down, so as this 1981 Volcano came up cheap, it will give me something to do when bored, cleaning endless parts.
http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?gid=2742
After a quick glance over this machine, it appears Gottlieb threw this SS machine together very quickly/cheaply, compared to WMS in the same era?? But love the challenge.
I’m not into restoring classic’s, I enjoy working on the odd ball/not so popular machines, that I’m thinking most people don’t give a second glance for their collection. Just doing it for my own enjoyment, plus I’m a cheapskate.  ()
The seller did warn me the PF glass was missing and the MPU 'said' to be faulty.  Turns out there are a few more bits missing. Sound board, under PF remote pop boards and some critical harnesses.  !@#
Research informs me that this export game had sound only, no sound/speech board.
I have no intension of plugging her in until I have gone through the power supplies individually with a meter. Pinwiki has some info on earthing issues/mods, which look helpful.
Can anyone help me with a schematic for this game? Or point me in the right direction to purchase one.
I’m missing the main harness connecting the MPU/driver board. Does anyone have a spare one collecting dust? If I can get a schematic, last resort is to make my own.
It appears some harnesses between the PSU and MPU are also missing, so I’m looking for these as well. Any pictures of Sys 80 2nd Gen game board layouts would also be really helpful. 2nd Gen games were:
Black Hole, Eclipse, Force II, Haunted House, James Bond, Mars God Of War, Pink Panther & Time Line.

Lastly, someone seems to have nicked all x4 of the (under PF) remote pop bumper boards. After a quick research, Rottendog supplies a replacement.  http://rottendog.us/PBB080.html
In one of the pic’s below, someone has chopped/hacked one of the pop board harnesses, soldered in a mystery green cap????. Hench, a need for a wiring diagram before powering up.
If anyone has original spares kicking around, please PM me.
Again, I’m after any assistance and I not asking members to give me parts for free, I’m more than happy to make a donation.
Hopefully, once I can get her powered up and working again, I intend on doing a full restoration thread and this time will attempt my first PF touch ups/clear coat.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Now I'm super stoked. Back in sept 2012 Nino had a sale on GTB 27" un-ribbed legs.
I bought two sets. One for my EM 'Hit The Deck' and after checking this Volcano, it appears it also has 27" legs.  $#$

Please don't tell me 27" legs are not standard for this machine.  **&

I'm interested to see how you go with this one Paul .
I bought a project Black Hole (also export version like yours) a few months ago but haven't had time to make a start on it as yet .
I did think about grabbing this Volcano too, but figured 1 project SYS80 to start with will be enough  :D (plus I have too many projects already).  *%*

You can buy new board connector harnesses if you want to .. here is one seller

No problem. Remind me when you order and I'll throw in the plastic standoffs to mount them as well as I see by your pics they are also missing.

Thanks goodolddays, That's exactly what I need, plus they also sell the PSU to MPU harness.  $#$
Did try searching Ebay, but maybe my wording was incorrect.
It could be a while before I make progress on this Volcano, because like you, just to many other things going on.  !)#

special is still going  ^^^

From memory, all SYS80 have 27 inch all round except Haunted House which has 27 in the front and 31 in the rear. some say Mars God of War and Black Hole also have this arrangement, but I'm not sure.

The manual should state the leg size and you can get these from PBR - http://www.pbresource.com/mansch.html
