Hi Guys,
After my welcome post and lots of reading of other people posts I started.
It has taken me about 10 hours of playing about and learning I have a game that plays far better and is ready for well.... I'm not sure.

First off I got all the play field light windows flush, heat gun and flat blade screw driver to pop them out, then cleaning off the old glue, then refitting and gluing back in.

I also scored some NOS flippers to replaces the cracked ones. A Buddy has a spot welder and I had the Lock down bar fixed.

I found a broken wire on the EOS flipper switch, which after cleaning the contacts and re-soldering the wire, no more error message.

Next new rubbers, and maybe some LED's instead of globes. Opinions vs globes welcome.
I also have some broken braid from brackets rubbing on the side of the cabinet, should this be repaired?

Nice start Simon, It's very rewarding fixing these faults yourself. As for the braid wire, yes you defiantly want to fix it. If its broken it can cause some odd issues.

Yes fix the braid for sure or as above - quirky weird issues will come.

nice work on the rest of it .. always good to see a machine getting the love.

opinions on Lights .. i HATE THEM with a passion.   if its meant to have lamps in it then it should have lamps in it.   There is a bloke in tassie on the 'bay of E who is great to deal with if you need to buy a box of them. ( but its just my opinion - the next poster will probably love them )

Do you like cool white or warm white lights in your house?  i hate the cool white operating theatre style lighting in anything.

the last machine i bought had so many LED in it that when it 'went off' you couldnt see the ball. 

put led if you like them .. but dont just do it because everyone else does :)

Ha Ha, i'll be the next bloke who says I love them (LEDs)!!  I put them in every machine now, including the GI.  PAtially because of less heat generated but mainly as i love the look of them and it really brightens up a machine in my opinion.  I would try a few different types such as singgle or triple LEDs in different places and see if you like the different levels of brightness.  It really brings out the colour in some areas of the plastics that you don't normally see otherwise.

Thats what I was thinking, original vs moded It came with globes so.... but then the cost of replaceing globes over time vs LED's initial exspense and not need to replace them.
Quick check of some prices has them at Just over $100 local to do the playfield (different colours for each type). $120 from a online supplier and $170 for an eBay kit. I just need to check with some of our suppliers for work and see if I can get stuff cheaper.

If you like the look go for it, but don't consider price, $100 will buy you a lifetime of globes for 5 machines 
LEDs can fail early too unfortunately, some of the guys who like them will be able to point you in the direction of the better quality ones.

So my broken slides have been cut where they were cracked, bent back into position and TIG welded. Once fitted they click into place and hold the play field better than I could imagine. Plus it's so much easier to slide back into position.

The left ball chute was often catching balls next to the bumper rubber, When I removed the lower metal guide one of the screws was broken at the play field and the second screw was bent. Some careful drilling with the Dremel had the broken screw in a more suitable place, just in a few more pieces. Two new screws and it was all back together.

I have added some LED's that I picked up without going to great expense. Not sold on the look of them just yet, for the white inserts anyway, the colour is so different. Plus some flickering when not actually on.

Some of my other 555 globes were not working. Re-soldering the wedge mounting PCB fixed most of them. removing and re-seating some of the plugs fixed the remaining. Corrosion on pins to blame.

Just a few bolts and screws need to be changed as well as one of the supercharger sign screw holes tapped to help the cross thread/bent metal work. I might even fit a nut insert to make it stronger.

I have developed a problem in the DMD, one line has dropped out in the verticle.
On the display someone has used a screw to provide some tension onthe PCB/screen and it  mkaes two lines drop out when the screw is removed.

Help?
The DMD flex looks like it is glued not soldered.

It is common to find a line or two out, the wires fatigue near the glass and break away.

I show a pic of where I chipped away the glass to explose the wire inside and re soldered it to the cracked leg.

Thanks but my DMD has no pins like that at all. It's a Cherry branded unit and has big long ribbon cables, they are not even soldered.

Any repairs for them?

ooohh, not good news im afraid. Those boards are really hard to repair without the right gear. First you need to use a diamond tip bit in a router and grind the glass away enough to expose the conductor that is sandwiched between the glass, then you need to somehow attach another piece of wire to the conductor track, which is more like a resin (Homepin could probably enlighten us more on this?) then a metal track, and glue it all in place.
You can get this resin from pinball places, but it will cost $40. The other option is a window demister repair kit from SuperCheap Auto or the like and try that. From what I understand the join cannot be soldiered as the resin track on the glass will just burn.
Even after all this is done and you just happen to get it working, reliability may still be an issue due to the constant vibration a pin cops. May be better just keeping your eye out for a working second hand display or bite the bullet and get a new one..

Finally some parts arrived from a US supplier and I'm not too happy. Not only did postage cost a fortune, it came in a massive box and late....

I ordered a new supercharger ramp sign to replace the broken one that was in my machine and the quality of the replacement part is quite poor. See photos. The new sign is inkjet printed not screened, It makes the back red colour look dotty and has appears to have black in it to even darken the appearance of the red. I may be having a whinge, but the good thing is it's mostly hidden behind the original supercharger face plate.

I also got a new green target to replace one that didn't match the rest of the machine.

I got a tz rocket plastic that was similar and was just wrong in colour. The os supplier basically said what did I expect and said he'd give me my money back less his freight and my postage for the return. The total postage would have been 3x than my refund. He said that everyone knows these plastics are repos, but his photo in his store displayed something totally different, that's what got me to order it in the first place. No orders for him ever again.
