Law of supply and demand.

Currently there is a plenty of interest with a lot of desirable machines staying with collectors for a longer time.

Many baby boomers are retiring with lots of cash to splurge on their childhood love of pinball.
If you don't remember the 70s then you were on drugs.
If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.
If you don't remember anything,  then read about it here,

Yeah, well, l have 40 late 70s and early 90 pinball stacked up doing nothing, got no time to work on then at the moment, but they seam to be asking a fair bit for the late s70s pins.

Interesting I was going to say something about an eBay listing for a space invaders pinball. I'm currently swapping my playfield on a working si pinball and will replace with new plastics, globe holders, all bumpers and caps and no pf wear. When I saw a nice example with a little wear and nothing new but working go for $2275 I went WHAT. I would expect my game when done would be worth maybe $2k so I think this guy had a real win.

Auctions sometimes can work out ok, think that SI was listed couple of times before with no result, 2275 - ebay comish = 2k  #@#

Correct !

There's a lot of project junkers hitting eBay that need a ton of work, which is great for people like me, as long as the junkers prices are not too expensive. I like the "auctions" where the game fetches a VERY low price, yet is listed the next day or so as a "non paying bidder". Why would someone win a cheap machine for a low price and not pay for it ? They have had 24 hours to "not pay" ?

The classic late 70's are increasing on price, but buyers need to look beyond the hype and make sure they know what they are actually buying. Seems a lot of KISS machines are hitting eBay again, and the prices are way over the top. for those prices you would expect a "High End Restoration".

But I have seen a trend towards High end Restos lately. Thankfully, buyers are willing to wait for them as they take a lot of time to complete !

luck, timing, supply and demand..    if two collectors with deep pockets had wanted that SI it would have gone for 5k not 2.

no love for the early 80's? .  but maybe you could fix the supply and demand issue single handed by listing all 40 for sale

Another example of ridiculous price rip offs on ebay.
Here is a kids game Star Galaxy selling for $1313 on ebay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mightymast-Star-Galaxy-Professional-Pinball-Machine-Black-/251584202244?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a93964604&_uhb=1

Same game can be had from Chrisco for $598

Seller on ebay is fishing for unweary buyers as his price is ridiculously high for what the item is.

Spot on. People are asking the higher prices, but the actual completed sales data indicates that they aren't selling for that price. I'm even classifying a pulled/ended early auction as a sale. The high priced* pins generally aren't moving.

Seeing the same high priced pins get relisted over and over again on ebay. Also noticed that a lot of those same sellers are also listing on gumtree so they have a bit more negotiation room on the asking price.

*High priced = $5k and up. The Spiderman Black that was snapped up the other night for $8k BIN was an aberration and undervalued for what it was.

Yep I have definitely seen a rise in pin prices. Not just on eBay but on pinball forums also. Honestly, there are a few prices being asked that are well over the top and others that just seem to take the piss. 5.5K for a Space Invaders comes to mind. Fair enough if these over valued pins are getting sold, many are relisted time and time again.

Private sellers are sometimes just small time dealers that follow the same shenanigans as "big" dealers. There's a private seller in NSW that pulls auctions before the 24 hour deadline - if the price is not right. Then the game is relisted due to "non paying bidder" or similar. The dealer games listed at stupid prices is simply an auction used for advertising purposes only - to snare unsuspecting buyers. The games are not even cleaned ! The problem with relisting machines for months on end is that the reputation suffers due to the inability to sell that stock.

Prices are creeping up because demand is rising again. It is like a "second wave" of supply not meeting demand. The one thing I've noticed is that pinheads want more value for these increased prices.

I can't see a problem with that as I own one  &&. But the problem is I'll never get such a price even if I throw my wife in with the deal  ^^^

I have seen this game and the price tag is still on it in the shop and quite frankly, and I know owners will always view their games better than what they are, my game is probably 40-50% better condition. So if you're looking for a nice space invaders pinball mine is for sale for $8000 or best offer  %.%

And no matter how much I like my spacies looks wise and play wise, at that price I'll carry it on my back to your place.

Many Sellers protect their prices by asking 'too much', knowing that buyers will attempt to beat a $5k pin down to say $2-3k, which is what the seller really wanted in the first place.
For a $5k pin, the unknowing buyer might offer $4k, thinking a $1k discount is awesome and yet the seller is still making a free $1-2k more than the intended with his $2k base figure.

No seller will turn away FREE MONEY.

Advertising for $2-3k initially will only attract more buyers who wanna beat it down to $1k before you know it.

Far too many buyers watching too many "pawn-star" shows and learning some bargaining skills that just dont work in real life. Pffft!
