It sounds cool if it was purely a cash business and you didn't want to get paid for your time. No records to keep etc... All cash businesses are great, but no distributor ever gave a franchise to a business owner who could not be traced or held to account in other ways.

Back to the $1000, Is that after deducting GST? And from that $1000 you have to cover premises, marketing, insurance, warranty work and dealing with lots of tyre kickers. Also have to run an accounting system, deal with BAS/GST/PAYG. Ok 50 pins $50k.

Allow $5k advertising and web sites, $500 insurance, and say $10k as contribution to rent, Say 10 warranties @$250 each for travel, time, parts. Spend about $5000 minimum in parts to support the agency,

Oh and don't forget, it's something like $200,000 to buy a Stern agency, if he'll let you. So if you could get 5% on your money elsewhere, that's $10,000 in lost interest, leaving... $17,000 profit for working what 20 hours per week?

That's $17 per hour you're earning, or about the same as the adult minimum wage.

It makes more sense if the franchise is a bolt on to an existing business that can be efficient with call outs, parts, advertising and rent, but still... it's not that hot. Now, $2000 each and double the quantity and you might have something, but only just, as $68,000 for a year is still just average wage for all the increased risk and inconvenience.

Disagree. Hundreds of new Sterns get SOLD every year in Australia. People are making money on selling BNIB Sterns. I know the $ numbers. Very profitable.
In fact, Alot more profitable than pulling a tired old machine apart and spending 40 to 80 plus hours on it minus gross costs to get a few grand total.
A 5 minute STERN sale is worth a grand. Maths is maths. But the non believers can keep their calculators and I will keep mine.

Also, u are going to get callouts on your own work from time to time as well with much older machines wearing themselves in.
So that argument is null n void from where I stand. Anyway. Lets see what happens in 12 months or 24 months and who is making the dollars.

The small margin on resale of a Stern NIB is nowhere near the earning capacity, the demand for, or the satisfaction of a High End Restoration. Considering this is how I feed the family, I think I'm qualified to know this. Timeframe makes no difference to me - 12 months - 100 months. I'm setup for the long haul because I've picked the area of the market where the growth is and the demand has never been stronger. Money is not everything to me, I love what I'm doing. But I would not risk my time and effort on a small section of the market.

It was to bolt onto a existing business. Just like say Ford, they have new car sales, 2nd hand car sales, spares n poarts then servicing.
Each profitable bolt on is the answer.

I have spoken to AMD before and no such fee exists.

Back to Mustang, spoke to an employee of FORD Australia about the Mustangs that are coming out and he has heard about the MUSTANG Pinball.
From what I am hearing, STERN designed a mid range difficulty level game because they wanted to catch a wide audience of new pinball players and not just pinball collectors.
Seems FORD here and in the USA will be heavily promoting the pinball when the Mustangs arive.
I was told we are in for some special treats when the MUSTANG comes out in Coyote V8 versions.....plenty of grunt to beat anything with a Holden badge I am told.  Good news for Ford buyers.

more for future reference for those that care or for those that are interested - the promotional key fobs are various in the goodie bag with this game, with the fluffy dice being appropriate I think, with the others being quite odd and random not relating to the theme

People are buying new Sterns but like the old clunkers some sell better than others! MM was a non licensed theme and buy memory it only sold just over 4000 units not exactly a massive seller? But it's one of my favourite of the old games :-)
