I keep a record of all the games that come in for repair, and one I had recently was a rare game - Bally "Speak Easy" - the two player version. It was purchased by a customer off eBay after being sold and then relisted
and he jumped on the opportunity. It was sold as a "working game", but it had a few issues that needed to be repaired. It had no sound ! The central part of the game - the roulette wheel didn't work also.
But "as is" - it was a very tidy example. The playfield is a bakerlite - so there is no wear except for a sunken insert !
Nice backglass
Really nice playfield
The roulette wheel issue was so easy a novice would take 5 minutes to find it - Dry joints on the expander PCB that hangs off the spinner motor. The sound issue was a complex issue, but it ended up being a capacitor shorting to ground. The biggest issue was the game was over-fused and jumpered incorrectly.
Such a common issue that is a real problem with eBay pinballs.
The game is a VERY cool theme and you start off with 5 balls. At the end of each ball, the roulette wheel spins and you can "win" an extra ball (+1) or LOSE a ball (-1). There are extra scores achievable as well. Playing a two player game is interesting as you can effectively lose 2 balls on your first ball. You can spin the roulette wheel in certain instances - when the outholes are lit is the easiest. But it comes with the same risk as the end of ball spin. It looks simple enough, but it is highly addictive !
