WPC89 unpopulated CPU board scans
« on: February 27, 2015, 06:29:13 PM »
I had the pleasure of building two WPC CPUs this week for a customer's machines.
Took me about 10 hours straight in one overnight session. :D

Before I started though I took several high resolution scans of the bare motherboard.
Below is a scaled down version but if anyone would like a high res scan, I am happy to email them.
Files are 60 to 80 Mb each.

Certainly take some time to put together. *%*

I know it can be risky but any chance you'll sell these in kit form?

Or what about selling the bare PC boards?

I would definitely prefer to grab your boards next time.

Shame to have them sitting there. !!!

I would probably consider selling a "bare bones" kit that included maybe xtals, connectors, FPGA socket and a few other key, "hard to get" parts like the 22M resistor etc.

Mike's boards are brilliant. I have one working perfectly in my Indy but a project like this really interests me just to see if I can "neatly". One would probably be enough though.  200!!!! That would do my head in.  :lol

Mike's boards are brilliant....

Definitely.
Some obvious benefits come to mind immediately;
Firstly the silk screened component labels will save time.
Secondly, not having to worry about rewinding the inductor, saves time.
Smart battery options will save CPU boards in the future.
Pinning down that tiny crystal saves.....er, that tiny crystal.

I would probably consider selling a "bare bones" kit that included maybe xtals, connectors, FPGA socket and a few other key, "hard to get" parts like the 22M resistor etc.

Sounds like a brilliant idea. ^^^

I almost have all the parts in stock now to put together about 30 kits with ALL parts supplied. I don't intend to write an assembly manual as the screening on the boards is very complete with all part values as well as part numbers.

I won't be able to ship the kit with a lithium battery but everything else will be included.

Some component reading/identifying skills as well as soldering skills would be required.

Should have the kits together this week and it will be very much first in, best dressed....

Think Mike has network issues with replying to PMs.

If you don't hear back, might be worthwhile sending him an email.

I'm interested in a few kits, just depends on price.  Do you have that worked out as yet Mike?

No worries Mike.
Hopefully you already have me on the list, but just to confirm my interest in 2 kits.
Thanks.
Steve

With things like this I don't work out prices in advance as it is too time consuming and almost always wrong as there are far too many suppliers and variables.

My "feeling" for price so far is that my kit "should" be considerably cheaper than any of the other replacement options out there by a large margin. Then add the proven quality of these as well as the "I made it myself" factor and I think this kit should be a popular one.

It must be remembered that I will sell a kit of parts ONLY and I am not in a position to offer any repair or "fixing" service for kits that don't work after being assembled - others on here "might" be able to do that if required (Beaky, Skybeaux etc).
