T2 canon assembly

Anyone taken apart or know of a detailed drawing on how to disassemble the canon on a T2? My motor seems to be labouring and I'm guessing it might be gunked up around the canon shaft etc. Any advise would be appreciated.

It's actually fairly straightforward. Large e-clip holds the cannon assy into the bushing assy that attaches to both sides of the playfield.

Unscrew the bracket with the motor on the underside of the playfield. A pin running through the motor shaft keys it to the cannon.

Pull said e-clip. Unplug the connectors for the cannon solenoid and switches. Lift assy out top of playfield.

Clean the bushing and the motor shaft with your solvent of choice. Put back together.

no just normal pinball maintenance. I play my games which means wear and tear. Just happens this time around one goes down, another isn't working to optimum capacity, another in for restore, the rest simply perfect. I like things playing their best and seeing the gun sometimes does double rotations are things I can't cope with. Luckily I sometimes have replacements that may come in handy like a motor assembly in this case.

I feel for you Rob, I usually find with pinball when it rains it pours! For about a week at Christmas I had one machine after another play up on me quicker than I could fix them. I was down to Asteroid Annie (a single player) as my only working machine. They are all back in working order now but it was a hell of a headache at the time. Annie's still never missed a beat though.

Hey guys got the canon motor off and have replaced it with a new I had. But before putting this back I rotated the canon assembly and it feels quite a bit of resistance to rotate and gummy. There appears to be this black gunk between the shaft and pivot point. Just wondering is there a way to seperate the two and clean it. Or should there resistance at this rotation point with the motor gearbox disconnected. I will wait for responses before reassembly see photos

All sorted just needed some friendly persuasion from a rubber mallet. Cleaned, new motor and she rotates much smoother and no more difficulties find home position.

I did find this site while looking for some photos of the canon assembly. If you're thinking a shop or playfield swap on a T2 this is very handy.

its metal on metal but quite a loose fit. I thought about grease but decided to just leave it. I don't think the number of plays it gets will be a problem. The grease that might have been there was like granular rubber. I also figured oil would collect dust/dirt and just foul up the unit in no time. If I'm wrong, its a 10 minute job now to get the canon out and lubed.

Was interested as I'm still learning. I think the usual rule is no grease/ teflon lube anywhere on a pin (for good reason) - but wondered if these assemblies are different - but good point as huo these would never get enough use for it to wear (my Demo Man cryoclaw is safe for now )
