Poker Machine Restoration
« on: August 21, 2015, 10:00:17 AM »
Specifically "one arm bandits" !

Some recent calls to APR have been to inquire about restoration of fridges, motorbikes, Grandfather clocks and weird coin op equipment. We have received MANY calls regarding repairs and restoration of Poker Machines - especially "One arm bandits". We don't accept these projects because we only restore pinball machines and besides, our backlog won't allow for it. So if anyone is interested in taking on this kind of work - please let me know. I'll pass on the work.

That's what I realized after the calls kept coming in. Some are for repairs, but most want them fully restored.

I've found one armed bandits to much hastle no info no parts and to needy.   Purely mechanical and Electo mechanicals are ok as a slow long term project but everyone wants them done yesterday

Other coin op stuff sounds interesting

I've been asked a few times if i do work on old poker machines.. I've done a couple of old one arm bandits the last couple of years.. but i dont advertise it since i've been told that i stand to get into a lot of strife if i restore one to accept and pay out coins and the wrong people find out about it!! Now i don't know just how true this is but its something i always keep in mind anytime i'm asked to repair one  *%*

I won't touch the electronic variety (with CRT screens etc) but i'll usually look at the old mechanical ones.

I have one here to do at the moment for an AP member  #@#

I'm not sure what the law is exactly, but I know that the Bally Bingos were deemed illegal to operate in the mid 90's, but you can own one in the home. I think there was one one display in a shop in Fitzroy a couple years back. Just don't operate them.

I think that if you are a restorer, you should not get into trouble. Maybe a question needs to be directed to the Police so they can point you in the right direction. There is a relevant department.

About 10 years ago I emailed the gaming commission to see what the rules were on owning a one armed bandit the Reply was something like this.

We advise you do not attempt to own a gaming machine there is 5year jail $100,000 fine or both.

You can get a permit to own one but the machine isn't allowed to take coins give coins must be stored in a locked room and will be subject to spot inspections

I'll see if I can find the email and the permit application

I dont think the current generation of gaming enforcement police would know what a Bingo machine was.  !@#
The guys that knew would be long retired or deceased.
