I have purchased and installed several CPR playfields. I have over a dozen to install. The playfields CPR apply a "current" industry standard which is superior to the varnish / clearcoat of the original playfields at the time of their production. In other words, it would be more than acceptable for home use.
I have NOS playfields, IPB playfields, Mirco Playfields and CPR playfields. The quality varies, but the only playfields that MUST be redone are the IPB playfields - wafer thin clears.
It is a personal choice to re-clear CPR playfields. Many of the projects in my restoration queue have CPR playfields that were sent to Tim at HRP for a re-clear to offer better protection and also durability. In some cases, the Bally SS have gone to Tim to re clear with the intention to raise the finish to a more gloss than satin finish (not factory finish).
Keep in mind, the CPR clear is far superior to NIB Stern machine playfields - so if you are comfortable with that level of clearcoat, then the CPR is more than enough.
