Pinfest 2020
« on: May 26, 2020, 11:48:36 AM »
Just got news that my restored Sorcerer is being accepted for Pinfest. Here's hoping the machine stands up tween now and then and the world is open back up before September. I'm excited!

Anyone else taking anything interesting with them?

Hoping i have the Orbitor 1 fully functional before next years one.

Bugger, all my research said that the Sys 9's had 4 ohm speakers. I should have figured out how to test the old speaker before ordering.
I put the backbox speaker in today and have no sound now, if i replace the cab speaker with the other 4 ohm model i bought will that make it work? or do i have to buy 8ohm speakers?

Nobody know anything about speakers? i don't want to do any damage by going further is all. Google tells me they should work, but they don't so far.

From what i can tell from schematics, the speakers are wired in parallel so i'm guessing they should be 8 ohms each which makes for a total load impedance of 4 ohms seen by the sound board. Using two 4 ohm speakers would give a two ohm impedance which risks damage to the audio amp IC on the sound board.

Its possible you may have damaged the sound board, I'm not too familiar with the sound board on Sorcerer, if the sound board has any fuses on it check them. That's a worst case scenario though if the amp has blown, but is a relatively easy fix if it has. Could be as simple as a dislodged connector so check for that too!

So they really should be 8 ohm Mitch. Shit.

they seem to be saying here that it doesn't matter, everything i've googled says it should run too, but draw a little more power.

Bugger, i don't know enough to do such simple things, it drives me crazy.

For those playing along at home i went and looked at this again today (mostly cause i wanted to play it) but when i lifted the playfield the cab speaker clearly said 4 ohm.

I also saw the dangling 4 pin connector that was hiding.

While i wasn't looking some moron (probs a big stupid tattooed bastard) went and disconnected the sepakers from the sound board.

Plugged in and the new 4 ohm is talking to the old 4 ohm and all is good. Just need to mount the new cab speaker now, but it looks like it will need some sort of spacer.

Neil came round yesterday and worked on some pins. Sorcerer was first and got the capacitor kit put in, flickering gone thanks to everyone. Now set to free play by limiting the credits to zero.
I finished the speakers and it's sounding perfect. Just waiting on the trim to come back from being polished and i'll move it up the front and get it being played every day for a month or two.

Anything else you guys think i should do to get it ready for the show? Rubbers are only a year old but should i get a rubber kit and put it in the coin box in case?

Anything else i don't know about?

Burn in begins. i playing mostly multi player games to look for bugs and ball traps etc. I want it playing perfect. It's boosting my average scores on this title too, which is good, my best is not much over a million.

Might have to set the replay award higher, the pop shakes the room and might be a distraction at Pinfest?

The extra ball bell is sweet though, might set that to easy.
