Why doesn't my White Water go click?
« on: December 29, 2009, 10:51:31 AM »
Hello to all, my White Water doesn't make the loud click sound when an extra ball or high score level is reached, can anybody tell me if White Water doesn't do this,or its in the settings, or its broken. Cheers

Does it have a knocker in the backbox?.  If so, is it connected?

White water does have a knocker
but it only activates when you score a free game, not when you score an extra ball

THe knocker may have been removed or disabled (it maybe simply unplugged)
it is located in the upper left corner of the backbox

yep, depends on your settings I think. All my WPC games "knock" for an extra ball (as none award a game as that is somewhat pointless! ;)

For starters, download the manual http://www.ipdb.org/files/2768/Williams_1993_White_Water_English_Manual.pdf and check your settings.

If the machine was a European import then it may well be the knocker was not supplied.

Also alot of the time the knockers can lock on, shorted tranny, and most people find it a nuisance to pull out the board and replace the tranny for a none essential part of game play so they disconnect it from the game..

I would say 8 times out of 10 the knocker is disconnected due to a shorted tranny.. That's the machines I've come across anyway....

I dare say a few ops or shops that the machines were in would have disconnected them to stop the noise and scaring the crap out of people in the shops when it went off.  It would wear a bit thin after a while if it was in a shop or similar, especially a nice snappy one.

speaking of pinball knockers. I think the "electronic" knocker noise/distorted shriek that I have from my P2000's and I'm told on the later games is the worst sound I can imagine. The physial coil shaft hitting wood can scare you but the other noise just makes me look up to see if my pin has just blown up. I've gotta see if I can turn that off in the settings.
Still loving my Metallica Premium

Nothing like the knocker slamming into the cabinet or headbox when you least expect it!!!
