Hi from less then a newbie
« on: March 22, 2010, 08:54:46 AM »
I'm Tom, and go by thehaze in the pinball world.  I really am still just a newbie wannabe though I have been hanging around the virtual side of the hobby for a while.

My intro to the world was thru an interest in the LOTR.  I am an avid collector of some of the small action figures and around 2007 came accross them being used in the Lotr pin.  Well, since then, that game has been a bit of an obsession to get, and sort of the 'Holy Grail' of the collection.  It took a long time to actually get to play one.  I actually stumbled upon one by accident when I went to a local hotel resort for lunch.  We had to go thru the game area and there one was.  I sort of froze and my wife and friends asked what was wrong.  I could just say 'It's here!"  But, they already know I'm a little nuts  %.%.  I also have many ideas about Mods i would like to experiment with.  My backround was technical in the military and I am interested in the electro-mechanical workings of the machines as well.

I just have played it there.  I guess it is a route game, there is a POTC and a few video games.  The funny thing was I was trying to find one closer then an hour away to play for months and one ended up being only 5 minutes down the road !

Thanks all for the welcome.

Hi Morrie,  I am glad you liked them.  Hope those Hobbits on the slings are holding up under the bombardment!  I was wondering how the installation went.  The main problem I hear is that the Gandalf plastic on the LE is the one used for the later Stern runs with Gandalf the Grey (on foot).  Most people like the mounted Gandalf on Shadowfax, but I am not sure how they are going about mounting him.  No option, even getting an original version plastics set  seems to handle all the details entirely.  A few have also mentioned a problem with Saruman, but that has been harder to pin down.  I do still sell the figure sets & have found a few new customizing figures that fit the scale environment OK.  If you want to PM me I can give you link to my last list.

Let me add my welcome.

LOTR is a good to great pin, and certainly is up there with some of the best.

But they are expensive!

Yes, they are a pretty penny indeed.  But seeing what all is in them, not really a bad value.  When I was just collecting the figures it wasn't too difficult to get them all.  But to keep the interest going I started to hunt for unusual items or packaging.  I remember telling my wife, 'Honey I have good news and bad news...I found something new to get with the figures...but it costs five thousand dollars!'

I find the game is fun to play, even being inexperienced at it, with the POTD, VUKS and Balrog bashing.  I find the the 'Ka-Chunk of nailing The Ring particularly satisfying.  I was watching a person, good at it, play and the knocker startled me.  I thought something was wrong.   !@)
