so i removed all the mylar with no problems at all. No insert decal damage at all.
I used a product called "goo gone" I imported some from the U.S.A. and it was well worth it.

How hard was it to get the "Goo gone" - I 've seen it mentioned elsewhere with glowing reports but never found it is Aus.
I have a recalcitrant piece of mylar that I can't budge.

Can you share the details of how you got it?

There is another product called Goof Off which you can get at Bunnings etc but it is much harder and dissolves things.
good old egay. here is a link for one of the over seas sellers.http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GOO-GONE-citrus-grease-gum-sticker-tar-REMOVER-cleaner-/300440632614?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0. its not cheap but its cheaper than repairing the art work on the playfield.

when i use it i have the playfield on a slight angle so as i peel the mylar off it seaps under the next bit of mylar. It was on the playfield for a while and it didn't disolve any paint.

ST TNG is definitely one of the hardest machines to recondition. There's a few upgrades that can be done to the Aux Driver board and also replace the cannon wiring looms.

Great progress so far !

I dunno if you can get this stuff on your continent.. I know I can't ship spray cans overseas...

This stuff makes Goo Gone look like water.

I use the freeze spray method on DP playfields, followed by this stuff, and the glue comes off super super easy.

I have used Orange Solvent for years, before it became 'commercially' available  and had great success with it removing glue- especially after mylar removals.
I am sure it is the same as JWJ's spray version - or at least similar concept.
I never 'left it on' long , and it always gave good results - easily.

I have been told that it WILL remove paintwork but man, in my experiences , you would have to rub hard and long for that to happen.

I've never had to leave it on the playfield very long, the glue comes off quickly. So, I'm not certain how long you'd be able to leave it on the playfield. As with any solvent, regardless of how 'mild' it is, or seems to be, you don't want to leave it on there any longer than you have to.

I also use it to remove adhesive from cabinets. I've had more than my fair share of container games where the guy packing the containers taped the heads down with that crap brown packaging tape that leaves residue all over the place. Also is good to remove old adhesive from ramps and decals before reapplying them etc.

The playfield came up a treat. The key is the treasure cove attachments. U can get polish from anywhere, but its the treasure cove drill attachments that are the winners here. They were designed well by the guys in the USA.  ^^^

The polishing made a huge difference to that playfield. Cant wait to see the next few resto steps. Well done Andy !  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^
