PINBALL 2000 IF RE-RELEASED ?
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:57:32 PM »
I am a huge fan of Pinball 2000.

The more I play Revenge from Mars and Star Wars Episode 1, the more I love Pinball 2000. The action and varied graphics on the large monitor, plus the normal pinball action is just a heap of fun and eye candy.

The QUESTION IS -  !@#

"If PINBALL 2000 was re-released tomorrow, in a new title, would you buy one if the price was attractive ?  !@#  and also, what sort of title would you like to see for a Pin 2000 re-release. Would you go for something totally new, or what about if a Twilight Zone, or a Indianna Jones, or something like a Monster Bash was re-released in a Pin 2000 platform.
* That would be very interesting, playing a Twilight Zone with a rear monitor etc. Imagine the graphics you could design with 2011 technology and software.

I reckon a re-release of a Pin 2000 platform with successful titles from the past would work really well. (I know the chances are slim, but you have to have a dream).
Younger generations would also welcome the mixture of arcade n pinball mixed in this platform.
When I have some teenagers over at my place with mum n dad with them, its the Pin 2000 models they always go straight to.

I reckon I would jump on one, and a Twilight Zone or Indianna Jones would be on the top of my choice for a Pin 2000.  ^^^

What do u guys think ?  !@# !@# !@# !@#

More pin 2k would be cool. I love RFM and SWEP1
How about a CFTBL pin2k, that would sure eliminate holo problems, that would be a cool re-release.
For a new title I sure would love a rugby league pin( although it will never happen ) based around state of origin and in pin 2k that would be insane!

Arh Brett….it’s dead mate….though I love your way of thinking – morph Pinball & Arcade together.
Can’t see why an lcd acts as the backglass and integrates arcade with the standard pinball machine.

Does Gary Stern still have the rights to the Sega pinball name??
If so, how about “Super Monkey Ball”…play those monkeys on the backglass (arcade) and flip them on the whitewood (pinball).

What about Capcom pinball – Can you imagine Gene Cunningham morphing say “Street Fighter”….think about it guys?

Man, I wish Obi Wan Kenobi is out there……he’s our only hope.

I just reckon Pinball is ready for something NEW again.

The latest stuff from STERN is pretty n all, lots of flashy bright lights etc, but its sort of basic basic basic pinball if at best.

I reckon something NEW and INNOVATIVE like Pin2000 was when it was released. Maybe the LCD backglass from Jersey Jack with the Wizard of Oz might be a start, but the basic basic basic offerings from STERN dont give me a hard on at all. Someone needs to be vary daring and do something very edgy with big balls.

Someone needs to bring something out that makes alot of us instantly say YES YES YES I want one for sure. I havent seen any title for the last 6 or 7 years that has made me want to put my hand in my pocket for a New In Box pinball. BUT, a pin2000 release would make me reach for 6 or 7 grand.

A Rugy League or similar sporting theme would be good for Pinball 2000 because they could have different team colours you could select in the graphics. Another one would be Champion Pub, it is practically he same except it has the boxing bag/boxer figure instead of the monitor. With pin2k the fighter could change appearance.

a new realise pin 2k (with screen over playfield like swep1 or rfm) and a interactive 3d lcd back glass (like an oversized colour dmd display but better) all rolled into one.

Or a new concept like a playfield that has some sections that are clear with 3d interaction (like having 3D Nintendo screens projecting up from the playfield)

I know some people say it's not really pinball but if you look at it that way then a dmd machine is not really pinball. (since pinball was originally all Electro Mechanical now wasn't it.)

Pinball had evolved over the years, maybe some more changes could bring it back again.

Well we can all have a dream can't we.  ()

But yes some new pin 2k titles would be great

Exactly! Imagine being able to choose the sacred maroon jumper and then smash up the blues in state of origin on your 2k pin whilst having a few quiet ales. #*# Pin/Footy heaven for yours truly! QUEENSLANDER! I heard that John Popa is making custom pins, maybe he could a pin 2k to order?
The CP idea is also a good one and would make the game better for me, cp as it stands is a pretty one dimensional pin imo.

I'm not a huge fan of the platform, but I can see why there is such appeal. BTW - Bally Williams were not the first to incorporate Video into a pinball. Bally did it with "Granny and the Gators" and Gottlieb did it with "Caveman". It didn't work well then, and I'm not sure it was a great idea to revisit the concept with the Pin 2000 design.

Back in 2000, PC's and graphics cards were slow and resolution was really low (compared to today). So to revive the P2K platform would be like playing a PC game from 2000. Kids would look at the graphics and compare them to XBox or PC. No contest. The format would have to change, and with it, the platform.

Reviving the platform is the same as the "King of Diamonds" EM repros - a "copy" of  a classic EM game with Electronic components. It loses it's character and attraction.

I'd say there will be a change with Jersey Jack's new platform. Stern will be forced to compete and this will be the next "generation" of machine.

I understand ya point Daz, if someone only had one pin to play all the time, a Pin 2000 would be a little boring, but it can be a refreshing change to play a RFM or SW Ep 1 after playing lots of normal pinball. RFM can be espescially challenging, with SW Ep1 being a little easier to play, but a machine with definate eye candy with the jedi light saber and the improved movie clip graphics. If a Pin2000 was released today using 2011 technology etc, I reckon it would sell. The other point, is that no-one has come up with or even come close to implementing any new ideas in over ten years. I would buy a Iron Man in the pin2000 platform before I would buy a standard Iron Man in a snooze fest STERN platform.  *%*

I guess we all have different tastes, and Pin2000 was either loved or hated. But admittedly, I just like it cause it is so different.

One interesting thing, is most people have only seen or played a Pin2000 with a tired old monitor with faded colours. A rebuilt monitor with new chasis parts along with the degausing, and the improvement in colour n sharpness is 300 percent. Mine is like brand spanking new, and the graphics are excellent n crisp and as bright as buggery. This alone makes a massive visual and positive gameplay difference.  ^^^

Love RFM myself, not so keen on SWEP1.

If a new Pin2K title was done well (even modernised a bit) I could see it selling.
