Early Stern Pinball playfield overlays
« on: August 28, 2011, 03:00:51 AM »
The time has come for doing the 2 Star Gazer playfields this Fall with direct ink restorations using large commercial inkjet printer. One guy in Australia wants an overlay for his & the masking film so he can do it himself. So if anyone else is interested let me know, I believe it will be under $200 shipped.

Here are some pictures of the 2 playfields here for direct ink. If you don't know the process I use, here is another introduction. Playfield is sent in with everything top & bottom removed. Playfield is sanded bare top & bottom is just lightly sanded. I check the light lenses to see if they are loose, & they are usually ok. Playfields get 2 coats of waterbourne varethane, lenses & wood areas are masked, & sprayed with acrylic gloss white. Masking removed, 2 more coats of varethane, & 1/2" mdf screwed to the back to level out playfield. If everything looks good it gets inked using a uv inkjet printer. Playfield looks good it gets 4 coats of varethane, & then out to another guy for about 3 finish coats. The album starts with pictures of Space Shuttle that was masked & sprayed white gloss to give you a better idea.
