Hi Guys,
Printed some new labels for my Meteor Drop targets. Unfortunately the stuff I bought doesn't work very well; the Toner scratches off too easy, putting a clear sheet over the first ended up being too hard to get flat (got air bubbles). This is what I bought http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/A4-TRANSPARENT-CLEAR-LASER-PRINTER-LABELS-GLASS-STICKER-/110612369124

I've added a photo of the printed sheet so you can see what im trying to do and an example from the E - unfortuantely the phot doesn't really show the air bubbles well.

I am wondering what other guys have used (brand/ part no?) and how they applied.

Thanks, John...

I didn't have a bubble problem with mine, but sold the game after a while so don't know how it stands up to abuse. It still looked great after a year or so.

But anyways, what I did was print with a regular ink jet printer onto some peel & stick paper (HP Invent It Peel & Stick project paper to be specific, though it's not really anything special). Then I applied a layer of clear peel & stick stuff to that, then cut out to size and it was ready to peel off the backing and apply. Good thing about this is for my application I needed white, so the paper provided that.

Here's a picture of the machine I did this on:

Probably no help at all for insert graphics, but for what it's worth... It worked on my drop targets and the rest of the opaque art very well.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.

Thanks Mr Pinbologist. Reckon I'll try the Clear Laserjet Waterslide Decal Paper 5 sheets A4 http://www.thecopiercompany.com.au/product.asp?ID=6688 from the same place - its for laser printer.  Where do you get Mylar from (I've never bought it)?

Thanks Vinito, great idea for the other plastics as well.

Hi John, I've used the clear waterslide laserjet decal paper as well, but not on drop targets as yet, should be ok with mylar over it.

I buy the mylar from Bumper Action, in pieces large enough to do a whole playfield, after i mylar a pf there are usually offcut pieces leftover that can be used for drop targets etc. I think it was about $60 a sheet last time i bought some. If you dont want to go to that expense or have no use for a large sheet, i have heaps of offcut pieces laying around, i could send you some to use if you want  ^^^ I'm moving house at the moment and its all packed away but if you can wait a few days i can find and send you enough to do your targets.. PM me your postal address if you want some to try and i'll send soon as i can  ^^^ ^^^

Cheers.. Mitch

I simply used adhesive paper through an inkjet printer. The letters and numbers were redrawn by Wotto. I then placed mylar on the targets. I sold the game a few years ago.

I would recommend stealth mylar as another option to protect the decals.  It wears very well and can be bought in pre-cut shapes or as a A4 blank sheet to cut your own.  www.pinballpal.com/stealth/

Looks like they have specific cuts for targets now as well.

No problem - That's the main reason I document my restores and I always emcourage others to do the same.

I REALLY miss my Meteor, and I'm always on the lookout for another !

If you want I can make some on my Roland printer, I can print them on 5 year oracal vinyl and give them a clear laminate over the top,
Should last pretty well, I will need your file or if you are using a particular font I can work from that.

Cheers

millsy – thanks for the feedback on the waterslide paper ^^^

deep six – thanks very much for the offer to print the labels. The lady at work here has just told me she has some Avery clear labels at home – she is going to give me a couple of sheets to try, I’ll then cover with the clear protective sheets I tried printing on – if it works, I’ll post the results here. If not, I’ll probably take you up on the offer  $#$ . B.T.W nice plotter, I used to repair Rolands, Graphtecs, Calcomps etc in the old days (early 90's) :tumble:

Guys,
Finally finished the drop targets. In between keeping the wife and kids happy, it’s only taken me a month and a half.

I got a little carried away and ended up replacing the drop target springs as well so that they all dropped even (some weren't dropping right down).

Anyway I used Avery Inkjet label paper and put a clear laser label over the top (the laser labels I bought above that didn't fuse properly).

The results are below. $#$

On another note (I'll probably post this as a problem) - when a new game starts up, different targets in the Meteor bank will intermittently drop down straight after being reset - has anybody had a similar problem before? Any advice? @.@
