Got a big tarp, I hope it doesn't rain tonight.
Seriously though if you run into problems and need to store something for a little while let me know.

Ive had a similar problem and am trying for the life of me to remember what it was...

make sure you havent got some solder splash on the coil control IC... somewhere along the line you are allowing a path to ground on the coils. because its more than 1 firing then suspect the controlling IC... this could be faulty or maybe allowing a path to ground via a cap thats close.. hence the pulsing... but chances are that its solder splash... SOMEWHERE

Ok guys finally made room to set this big bitch up again to remove the boards.   No visible solder splash flux issues machine still pulses all coils at power on.

After the initial pulse the whole game runs 100%.   Any ideas what's causing the initial pulse???

ALL coils Daniel? Including flippers? Solenoids and CPU controlled solenoids ( special solenoids)...

... maybe we can narrow this down to a row or column?

Maybe a faulty PIA or Faulty Electrolytic Cap on the driver board or power supply or mpu.
Or a faulty diode on the flipper relay.

I have a similar fault on my BK2000 but it's intermittent and I haven't rebuilt any of the boards yet. (yes I know It's a different system)

do all the lamps pulse on start up also?

Maybe when the transistor died it damaged the I.C.or PIA that drives it which is sending funky signals to the data lines.

if you have a spare driver board or one from another machine try swapping it to confirm if the fault is on the driver board or else where.
