Damn Stern Galaxy stopped booting again.
« on: March 03, 2012, 03:15:56 PM »
You know how it is, you play and play your pinny, and after a while you become sick of it. Go away for a couple of months then come back. But the damn thing won't start up.
Well thats what happened to me at least. Powered up the old girl but only getting two flashes on the LED and thats it.
Pulled all the harnesses off the board (except for J4) and tried again.
Still the same, getting two flashes and then nothing, light goes out after the second flash.
Any clues as to where to go from here??

Cheers

No third flash means u8( 5101)  ram chip or its socket is bad. ^&( Try reseating this chip if its socketed!

Also get rid of the battery use a remote battery box or better still a 1FRD 5v Memory Capacitor can be soldered onto the board and never needs replacing and wont leak like a battery which is most likely the cause of your problem!

Thanks guys.

Yep, I'm thinking it might be that 5101 chip. After I got it working the first time it wouldn't remember high scores and wouldn't pay credits when replay score was reached, although not sure if the later was due to the chip.
Just looking at big daddy, they have a kit with ram chips and new sockets for $35 so look like that might be the go.

Make sure that the replacement 5101 is the same speed as the current 5101. Usually 150ns.
