I just sold a nice Japaneese Indy Jones widebody with excellent everything, norm cab fade, which had some Leds, for $4250.  Maybe the market in QLD is slower than other parts of the country ?

Prices for this title are a moving target. Five years ago dealers were selling IJ for $5000 - $5500 with faded cabinets, poor shop out work and flipper wear. I guess due to the saturation of imports, the price may have dropped somewhat, but collectors still view a restored machine (New Decals, no wear on playfield, gold trim and ramps) as a high end pinball that can fetch $5000 +.

As soon as you see an IJ with new cab decals, you can add $1000 to its value right there. Brett - That brings your machine in line with a $5000 + pin.

no, it wasnt radio active (much)          but was a japaneese machine that was in excellent condition that had been looked after. cab had fade, but cab was damage free.scratch/gouge free etc. (which makes it easier to redecal later)

in QLD, they have been fetching $3500 to $4500 for the last 4 years and there have been an abundance of them at those prices. my friend has charged the occassional $5500 for one, but he fully redecals it for the extra $1000 and throws a whack of LEDs into them for that as well, plus new coin door n legs etc etc.

In fact, I wasnt selling mine at all, and only just bought it a few months ago, but I was contacted by a AP member who really wanted a nice one, so i sold it to him knowing I could get another good one later easily. Indy Jones widebody is a great game, the audio being one of the biggest attractions. Gameplay is a little stop start, but it makes u work hard at placing your shots properly to get up the top of the playfield. Overall, a satisfying machine. Definate eye candy as well.

Don't Japanese delivered machines have a metal Taito badge affixed to the headbox artwork? As per this Japanese MM below:


IJ:

4-4.5 for a  standard container job with cab fade.
5 and up for a well looked after with minimal cab fade (add $$$ for aftermarket mods - gold siderails and lockdown, aftermarket toys will quickly add up).
Could easily get to 6 and above for a FULL restore with the works including redecal (just based on what is spent on parts alone, ignoring the labour/time of a proper redecal and restoration - yes, been there, done that).

It has and always will be a popular title and looks stunning once given the restoration treatment.

yes, Jap ones always have the Taito metal plate affixed, unless someone took it off.  same with my congo, gilligans, rfm and a few others. sometimes u wish they hadnt affixed the dam metal plates.lol

All the Jap pins I bought off caveys' mate had the badges, other people I know have also bought pins off him and they all had the badges too.
I really like the Taito badges for some reason, prob becuase I associate Taito with space invaders and that time in my life when spacies came out had a big impact and lasting impression.

Machines have all definately dropped in price of late. That machine had gold legs too by the looks of it. A small amount of wear around the rear of the 3 drop targets area, which wouldnt be noticeable when playing cause the drop targets always reset to the up position. A cliffy can be purchased/made for that area anyway. Owner wanted $4250 but got less in a open auction. Last one i saw went on ebay for $3800 from Sydney.

For the lower quality container grade pins that have been hitting our shores in the last 12 months, yes prices have dropped as there are now multiple importers across the country (both commercial retail and backyarder) who are all competing with each other for the "USED" pinball dollar....

But I maintain that there are collectors out there who will still pay good money for either well looked after or well restored machines (Strangeways T3 sale in record time and the continued demand for eltimbo's total restoration services supports that).

The IJ in that auction was neither well looked after nor well restored (the high level of filth visible in any of the close up shots, numerous broken plastics on the playfield, playfield wear and a bi-plane that looks like it has seen heavy action on the Western Front gives that away)

Also the "gold" legs in that auction look to be the original 18 year old factory brass legs with a very unhealthy tarnish.

The auction went to and was sold on paper for $3300. Thats indicative of just how much the prices have dropped.  If the owner decided not to sell it (which i have no proof of or have seen anything regarding that but it may be the case), it still only got $3300. The last Indy in excellent condition went on ebay for $3800. Even if u added a whole set of new plastics (which i didnt need) and shopped it properly with rubbers n globes etc, give it a decent playfield polish, its still a very very long way away from $5500. The gold legs on that machine could have been polished up, or a brand new set for $99. Cabinet decals are on ebay regulary for $199 to $250. People redecal machines up here properly for $500 labour-widebody.

If a inexperienced buyer wants to pay BIG money for any machine, they certainly can. When selling machines, every collector wants to talk up the prices, and buyers want to talk down prices, that is normal, but prices have dropped a long way. You just have to hope u find a buyer who doesnt study the market. Indys in QLD, in excellent condition have been selling up here for over 4 years for 3000 to 4500 in excellent condition. The last few ebay prices indicate, like alot of machines, the market has dropped. Good for buying. Not great for selling. Unfortunately it affects all of us, me included. If I go to sell anything now, I will lose money on half my machines as well. What can u do, wait for the market to turn, if and when people stop bringing in alot more containers that may not happen for a while.
  There is still alot of great condition machines in containers. 85 percent of the stuff is very good.

The owner had his mate bid it up to $3.3k as he could not set a reserve..........  so really did'nt make 3k
