Playmatic Solid State
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:59:26 PM »
Hey guys
I have an opportunity to buy a Playmatic Solid State machine.
It looks in good condition, but it isn't running.
Are these machines any good and how hard are they to fix?
It's complete except for one pop bumper cap, which I have read are hard to get.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Which one, as i have a big town playmatic with some spare parts but not working.I think there my be some custom chip somewhere on the board.
Not sure as mine has never work from day one but some people say 90% of the faults are the stupid way the connector are done in the head box.

Find something you be able to get parts for. ^^^

Would sell mine one day, but not to someone on he or someone that i no. #@#

Sounds problematic unless you are getting it REAL cheap.

You never seem to see a working Playmatic
They are always in good condition because they didn't get a lot of game play because they were always broken.
I've heard they can be nightmares to get working  but i've never worked on one myself.

I'd steer clear of it unless your feeling really adventurous  , and i wouldn't pay more than $50 to $100 for it

That's exactly right, Ken. Dad had two Space Gamblers and after developing faults they were removed from site and parted out. Playfields looked great because they rarely had a ball across them.

I'd avoid a Playmatic SS unless you want to use the playfield as a wall hanging or coffee table.

That's exactly right, Ken. Dad had two Space Gamblers and after developing faults they were removed from site and parted out. Playfields looked great because they rarely had a ball across them.

I'd avoid a Playmatic SS unless you want to use the playfield as a wall hanging or coffee table.

That's pretty funny Nino, you nailed it, it's a Space Gambler.
What caught my eye was the Backglass, I really liked the design and this one is almost spotless.
Gee I though it would have been worth more than $100 even for wall art.
The boards look really clean, like you said maybe not much use, the current problem is three blown fuses, and I don't know much else.

Love the artwork on these late Spanish and Italian games - I bought a backglass for one just because the artwork was great but would never buy one as a resto job, particularly if it is your first one.

If you do buy it, I may have a space bumper cap somewhere :)

If you are buying it for wall art, maybe $200 then!

If you need coils - I have a full set. Out of a Space Gambler !
