Tumbler

Do any of you guys have tumblers for your parts. I have a kick out assembly that needs to be cleaned on a RFM (It is incrusted in shit) thinking of getting a tumbler if its worth the buy an I will use it enough. What do you guys that have tumblers think, do you use it enough to warrant owning one. Bare in mind I only have three games but I plan on getting more in the future.

I have a Lyman 1200. Great investment and used heaps. Mind you I have rebuilt around 6 plus games a year since buying.  Using the correct media is key but no good for big parts.

I use it on customer machines for parts so is almost on 24/7.

bought one from this guy but was a Lyman - about 6 months ago. Only used once so far but was good and the guy was easy to deal with.

I have a Lyman 1200 and a Lyman 2500. Use them all the time when parts need to be polished - walnut shell in the big tumbler and corn cob media in the other. I put a good squirt of liquid Autosol in with the media, I find it is just as good, if not better than Flitz - but far cheaper.
One thing to remember though, tumblers are not cleaners they are polishers. A rust encrusted part will not come out of a tumbler gleaming.

I put all parts that will fit into an ultra sonic cleaner first with ammonia.. then through the tumbler. Tumbler only has to run for a couple of hours to get a high polish. I dont use anything with my media.. just straight corn cob.. works a treat

Thats the important bit - Tumbling is for polishing, not cleaning. You need to clean all the parts before putting them into a Tumbler. Otherwise all the dirt makes the media dirty and the polishing results are poor.

Brought the Lyman pro model online from Western FireArms for around $175inc delivered.
A bag of 20kg Walnut from a local sandblaster shop was $40.

Mines downstairs about 2 metres away from where the oldest and most painful teenager exists ..... when he pisses me off, i go and turn it on all night and sometimes polish stuff just for the hell of it... they are pretty noisy and i know it bugs the absolute crap out of him..LOL
