I really enjoyed watching the progress of your touch ups, and I'm impressed. This is your first attempt at playfield touch ups ? Well done !

Are you planning on clearcoating the playfield, or just waxing to protect the work ?

Yes, 1st attempt.  No clearcoat. I'm just going to wax and see how it goes.

I plan on using a roller to apply the base coat to the cab and making cardboard stencils . Have just been experimenting with a roller and cardboard on a piece of ply and find that I get bleed through around the edges of the patterns I've cut out.
If I use less paint the bleed through is less, but am really hoping to achieve some crispish outlines when I paint the artwork .. there are a number of circles to be done for example . Does this mean I will need to spray the 2nd and 3rd colours for best effect ?
If so, I will have to use a spray can cause I don't have access to a spray gun.
I suppose the problem with trying to use a roller to paint the artwork is you can't keep the stencil perfectly flat , hence the bleed through.
Also, when you paint the artwork , do you leave the stencil in place for 30 mins or so?

Appreciate any comments/suggestions about this .

Best way I have found is as follows:

Make stencils/or tape up

Then to keep this simple, say you want to apply red on base white

Once the stencils/tape are in place - in the area you want the colour to go, seal the 'gap' where the paint bleed is by applying the base colour white along the edge of the stencil/tape.

This will then seal the area for paint bleed.

She is your game - do what you want - I have done it with a roller on Picnic (the never ending repaint) and I was really happy
with the way she is coming out. You do get a different texture to the paint this way but I think it suits these old girls.

Great job on the touch ups!!!

 Just a small tip - when doing circular black lines - always use a compass with a very fine tip black marker inserted. Most of the time there is a hole right in the centre where a bumper goes etc ( as you well know!). I tape my paint jar lid over this and find centre of the circle. Draw the outer line of the black circle, then move the compass in slightly and draw inner line.

You can then paint and fill the full width of the broken line, the pen line gives you a guide for your hand as it is impossible to draw a perfect circle - even harder with a paint brush as pressure differences will give different widths.
Once youve filled the 2 lines, it looks spot on as you have a smooth edge to the line for the eye to concentrate on.

Instead of cardboard stencils -I used Clear Contact on all curves and shapes,a lot thinner than cardboard and seal all edges as Tony mentioned. On all straight lines I marked with pencil and used Blue masking tape,sealing the edges the same. The pencil rubs off easily when dry with a pencil eraser.
What type of paint are you using,acrylic,enamel or water based enamel ?
I found using the Roller gave a great result - Cheap and no mess.

Great tip about the circular black lines .. might have to redo them per your suggestion if I get motivated. Will get the BG measurements to you soon.

Thanks for your feedback and tips Kev. The contact idea sounds interesting and easier than cardboard method.. will have a think about doing it that way , spose I could use the cardboard as the template to mark the outlines when I sand back the cab. Is there any risk of removing paint (basecoat) when you remove the contact though?
Haven't thought about what type of paint to use as yet , need to reread what you guys have done .. so many decisions

Gday All ,

I've finally got back to this project .
Have sanded and primed the cabinet but haven't started back box yet.
I'm expecting to make a lot of progress next month
