Perhaps it's time to NOT look at Stern for this, and instead look towards an alternate manufacturer or backyarder to put something together...

That's a possibility, but the startup costs (initial investment) would be prohibitive for most people. Plus there are the licencing issues...

Yeh, the hurdle is always licensing.

I guess someone making modern OLD style games of original titles & concepts would be on a winner.

They would still need to be convinced that they will be able to sell enough units to make it worthwhile.

I guess if someone took pre-orders or at least deposits then they would be able to gauge the interest. But if they did that, how long would it take to produce the pins after enough people had pre-ordered?

Judging by recent history, unless you are making a pin from scratch (Coconut Island) or Gene Cunningham, it is not going to be too promising. You need a factory with an assembly line. Before that - you need a good business plan and a good reputation within the industry.

Near impossible I'm afraid.

Unfortunately, I just don't see it happening.

But hopefully history proves me wrong.

I agree 100% - I'd love to see it done.

I dont have my Stern Stingray anymore...

 !!! !!! !!! !!! !!!

Oh no! That's sad to hear. Where did the Stingray go?

I'd love to see some new single level pinballs made. I'd moved on from pins to video games when the newer multi-level pins started to appear so didn't play them much. I still find many DMD's somehwhat annoying because too much of the lower level playfield is often obscured by the top level and the ramps & toys.  !@#

Not just for collectors though.....would they make as much money on site as more expensive and tech machines???The normal punter would put money into anything at an airport probably..

Homepin has been quiet of late, am looking fwd to seeing him put a kit form pin out there. I agree about single level fast/sparsely populated playfields, they rock! A PF layout like Flash its just classic pinball. Was playing and watching guys play TZ the other nite, and in my opinion it was just slow. Like other 90's games there is little flow because players need to constantly trap the ball to make shots. Gimme a game where you can make shots without constant trapping and I am happy.

The Stingray got played more than any other of any of Paul's titles...and it was the most basic in gameplay in his collection.
