An offence carrying an $11,000 fine and 12 months in jail
« on: February 12, 2017, 02:53:09 AM »

"Even if the machine is dismantled or disabled, operating or not, it is outlawed for a citizen to own one," said Lake Illawarra Licensing Sergeant Gary Keevers.
"It is even illegal to own components, art work or boards from old machines."

Crazy stuff, fair enough if operating illegally,  but just to own is a bit heavy handed.

I was of the understanding that it was ok to have them if they didn't accept or pay out coins.. i guess not!!  ::)

Being illegal to even have parts or artwork is pretty bloody extreme.. what a joke!!  ::) ::)

I believe in SA it is illegal to sell them not own them.
Obviously illegal to operate them unless licensed but in a man cave with an unlocked cashbox amongst friends they are ok.

Crazy world we live in.
Illegal to own the real thing but perfectly OK to have a virtual equivalent on your PC.
Every time I play Microsoft Solitaire, adds come up for Slotmania and poker games from Caesar Casino.

Completely pointless law that would see a 90 year old Mills of Caille slot machine destroyed

Yet the fine for driving a car stoned out of your mind is $400.

These old machines are harmless and are more ornamental than anything else these days.

I enquires about this a few years back the email went something like this,

Machines are illegal to own with huge fines, prison time or both,

Permits are available but to comply machines need to not accept money return money kept in a locked alarmed room with spot inspections so basically pointless getting a permit as what fun is it

I was told recently that they are also cracking down on Bally Bingo machines. It always brings a smile to my face when I hear this, as even back in the 90's the Gaming Squad could not work them out - and here we are, 20 years later and they still have no idea.

I remember the "old days" when Dad once told an inspector from the Gaming Squad - "One thing I've learnt about this country. Aussies will bet on two flies walking up a wall".

I've had a number of people contact me over the last couple of months asking if i restore old poker machines. I HAVE repaired a couple of them in the past but i won't touch them now and have copied the news article link from the first post to my facebook page.

I was called last week by someone from Victoria wanting a couple restored.. told him sorry but NO i wont touch them  *.* *.*
He said someone down that way passed on my details to him, someone here on AP i'm guessing. Whoever it was thanks for the recommendation but no i won't be going there  *.* *.*  Bit of a shame really these stupid laws exist as i kind of would've liked to be able to do them. BTW i had yet another call just on Sunday morning by a local guy wanting one repaired.. DAMN!!

It seems these laws don't exist in America, if you watch American Restoration, they restore them!

And what other dodgy dealings are you engaged in so as to expect a dawn raid by the cops?

That was me. I receive at least a call a fortnight on "One armed bandits". I referred the customer to you Mitch. But it looks bad for people who want them restored. All you need is one of the customers to be from the gaming squad or similar and you could be in real trouble !

Strange thing is that all the calls I'm getting are from Victorians that bought the games from NSW. They were operated in NSW.
