To paint or not to paint
« on: March 30, 2017, 11:25:03 PM »
It has probably been posted several times before but I haven't seen the replies so I am very interested in everyone's responses. I am restoring a Gottlieb Magnotron which will ultimately be for sale. Should I repaint the playfield where required and should I repaint the cabinet. Both are in fair / good condition which makes the decision even tougher. Are buyers more interested in a better looking machine or original paintwork and patina.

Thanks all,
Dan

Buyers will either go for a solid original game, or a High End Resto on an EM. Would need to see pictures before advising. But if you plan on selling the game with a huge profit once painted and restored - I would not bother as it is not an "A list" EM.

Thank you gentlemen. Some pictures.

As far as profit goes I am only expecting a small profit, if any. I just enjoy working on the old EM's and would like to cover my costs.
For future reference, how do I know which are the 'A list' machines.
Regards,
Dan

I would not paint the cabinet
I am not seeing any huge wear marks on the playfield, it needs a clean, new rubbers and maybe a plastic set,

if the game is a keeper for you, then spend what you want, but you would be hard pressed to get more than $1000-1200

Condition looks too good to repaint.

Dare say it will clean up quite nice.

Clean, wax, play. Looks nice to  me.
If it isn't broke, it isn't pinball.
