Nothing like a Mylar free PF. as much as i hate the stuff, you have to be glad it was once put on. it has preserved many a PF through operator days. Now us collectors get hold of the games and we have a chance of a pristine PF. Good thing is that we will look after it from now on and ensure no wear.

Nino - i notice no marks from the ball shooter lane and over the PF arch - has this been cleaned already or has the game had very little play?

If cleaned - its come up a treat - normally the dirt is so ingrained here that a sand back is required

Woo hoo!  #*# How sweet it is. I can't wait to have a game on that. She's going to play nice and fast don't you think?

I restored a Genie with contact intact... Collectors always claim that Genie is sloooooooow, and plods along. Thats because they don't spent the extra time and cash installing flipper kits / flipper buttons....etc...

Moral of the story - The games were FAST when they were released - So spend the $$ and bring that speed back !!

This game will be fast as it is having the "full treatment", as described above - and it will have a fast waxed playfield..

Ball arch area was surprisingly in great condition. Basically, I just cleaned them with Shelleite / Novus 3.. The ball shooter lane was gently sanded with 320 and a "sawn off" billiard cue in the last pictures

I left the mylar on my Sinbad, just trimmed some daggy bits off. Its fast enough as is, and I wax it so in 50 years it should still be a great PF. I will admit they look better with mylar off.

Awesome job Nino.  The lucky owner will have a very very nice machine.  Everytime I read one of your resto's it plants that evil thought into my head...just one more machine...get another project....one more wont hurt!

Another part of your anatomy may hurt after you see and play the finished product  %.%

This game is close to the standard of the Genie I did last year.. It will be an exceptional System one game...

Playfield Update - underside

A huge amount of work needs to be done to the underside of the playfield. There is more corrosion than rust, and it needs to be tidied up a little ! The decision was made to replace every light socket in the game - playfield AND head. Thankfully, Greg had all the original Gottlieb parts to complete this task. The original sockets would be intermittant and the job of cleaning them would be too time consuming and might not address the issues.

Stripped Playfield

All assemblies removed to be rebuilt. Notice the globe holders - all were corroded and in some cases, the globes were "rusted shut" in the sockets ! Everything under here will be cleaned or replaced. Most of the parts have been cleaned and placed in the tumbler.

Commence Rebuilding

I'm re assembling in sections. The parts have had the corrosion attended to, cleaned and polished. The globe sockets are being replaced as I progress through the lower section, working my way to the top.

Lower section with Flipper assemblies installed ;

Flipper Bases

Here's what they looked like when I removed them.. One of the flipper shafts was rusted and I had to tap it out of the assembly with a hammer !

After a heap of work with my favorite new chemical, they came up great. New parts are installed from the rebuild kits from PBR.

More to come shortly..

Fantastic work!.  I am in awe....

Question for you Nino, with the globe holders which were rusted in...Did you have difficulty in removing them or snapping screws

The globes were rusted into the globe holders.. So I don't even try to remove them.

All the screws were removed easily from the holders to the playfield.
