White Water - Custom Plastic being created
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:15:43 PM »
Hi all,

A friend of mine gave me an idea the other week that was actually staring me in the face the whole time.
There is an area on WH20 just under where the ball enters the playfield from the plunger lane that is bare , but the biggest issue is that it has a globe in it that nearly takes out your right retina when playing a game.
Dilemma  = Take the bulb out and it is too dark there - leave it in , lose your eye  :lol
So my mate says - why not design a custom plastic for that area.

So I have started one today...

This is the area I am talking about ( I have a warm white LED in this image to try and soften it a bit )

And this is the plastic I have drawn so far....

My idea is to cut 2 slots in the plastic that the wireform supports for the plunger wireform can 'slip through' and then use 2 x plastic posts of some type , cut to length under the slot holes and long screws to hold this in place utilising the EXISTING screw hols in the game - WH20 owners will know, or at least be able to make out what I mean.

Any WH20 owners agree with this idea / dislike this idea / want this plastic created - please make comments....

Looks good Wotto.  I ended up putting a blue #47 globe there to soften the light straight in the eyes but the plastic would allow a white light which would probably be better.

Yeah I will 'test' the lighting after I get this finished and installed - ironically it may end up needing a 2nd bulb ADDED under it  !@# :lol !@#

A quick thought that may not look as nice but if extra light is needed, perhaps more white and less blue in the plastic to allow a bit more of a white glow to filter through the plastic?  I like it the way it is but it may be an option.

Otherwise an decent LED would probably fix the problem??   !@#

Ingenous idea. Wotto. Wonder if these were left off the final production for a reason ?

I would do it a bit different Wotto

Instead of the plastic going into the wireform, I would have it stop at the wireform & mount it using the existing holes for the ball guide mount screws, one is above and one below the flipper. You may need to cable tie the plastic to the wireform for added stability - this wouldn't be too bad as there are other plastics already cable tied in the game

Hard to explain without a picture but my plastic would be the same as yours except the long edge would be cut back about 1cm
