Globe earth braid configuration

On 70's games and maybe older they have a rope style braid used to connect the earth to all playfield globes etc. is there any game specific drawings on what the factory configuration/pathway for these? Or is it a matter of following the globe sequences?

I have noticed on sme pf's that the braiding is not one continuous line but made up of 3 or so tracks, hence my question on parts drawings etc for this

The braid is normally the live side... the wires are the individual earth triggers for say scoring or number bonus etc

you won't find the pathway on any schematics or drawings that correspond with a layout on the playfield. If you remove the old braid, it is always best to take photos and draw the outline.

When I do playfield swaps, I trace the braid on tracing paper and then superimpose on a new playfield. You can't just "wing" this process. Each machine is different, and I keep a detailed record.

found locally some braid wire http://www.hartleywilliams.com.au/index.php?slug=hw-list-1013 and thought maybe the 18 gauge stuff is the go, but what grams/metre is the standard pinball wire?

anyone know if the above would be ok and how heavy pinball braid is per metre. these guys have 113gm and 454gm

18 gauge is very thin... id be looking more at 14 gauge.

Is that for the silvered copper braid?

Yes was thinking of using this for under the playfield or should I just bite the bullet and go to pin restore and wait for the shipping?

I'm pretty sure pinball restore stated theirs as 18 gauge so that's why I considered it. Heres the link

Aye Pinrestore does sell 18G.

18 Guage is 1.02mm

16 gauge is 1.29mm

14 gauge is 1.62mm.

Its not like theres 10 tonne of current there, but if i was doing it, id be using the 14G.

Yes.... he does sell all 3 sizes though... any will work fine.
AC sits on the outside of the conductor and so a bigger surface area is always best.... but we are talking 6V with a combined current for each run at a few amps max which is nothing as far as power rating goes..

Ordered the 16g as I couldn't decide on 18 or 14. Thanks for the advise and hopefully this stuff is suitable for the job
