for some hi res images go here
http://www.pinplay.com/photo/73.html

also it looks like the LE has the inside red light strip along the cabinet sides which may also shine through the side rail to give that warp effect on the outside.

a guy on Pinside posted this interesting image where he overlaid a spiderman layout over the startrek. So if you really wanted a spiderman but missed out here is a possible pin for you.

He said this

Replace Green Goblin standups with short laneway... keep left orbit and spinner but bring them down a couple inches further... keep left side ramp exactly... enlarge center ramp... replace Sandman toy with Enterprise... swap right ramp and Doc Oc... shift lanes and rotate pops to suit new sightlines... keep right orbit and upper right flipper exactly... keep lane behind upper right flipper but change exit to alternate design already thought up for SM... don't touch anything else in the bottom third of the playfield... done!

Gosh, now Monkey See Monkey Do is imitating itself!!

Seriously, a good layout should be recycled, Williams did it for a lot of late model games as well. A new theme and some slight changes can still make a great game - look at AFM/MM/MB

The positive spin is that that Spiderman was a very successful table. The resemblance to ST TNG is unmistakable, but that is also a great table. I think Stern needed a "safe" title after the success of the music themed machines so they looked at ensuring the design was similar to successful previous titles. I have no issue with it at all.

Yep there's only so much you can do with a pinball after all these years so why not base the design on a successful table.

Peter.

But look at what Stern did with CSI - I LOVE that machine, because the design is so different from the standard two ramps and three pop bumpers. A completely original layout with unique features that didn't need to be overdone with gimmicks and toys.

I'd like to see MORE Drop Targets on Sterns.

I think the spectacular  light show will set this one apart. There are many elements of a pinball machine that give a unique character and a playfield is only one element.

If you remember playing pinball in the 70s you were having a good time.

I spoke to Bruce from AMD this morning and it does not look like too many Entetptise LEs will make it down under. He needs to give order numbers to Gary by tomorrow.

Except for the speaker panel, I don't think the LE looks that good.
IMHO the premium looks a lot better.
Not sure if I'll get a Star Trek, but if I do I'll be going for the premium.

I think the Master of Flow's track record is a good selling point. Most of Steve's past titles are classics.
