GOTTLIEB SYSTEM 80
« on: March 05, 2009, 05:14:07 PM »
Hi
          Are system80b pinball machines any good to work on? Or do they have major problems?  Ive offered to try fix one for a friend and just found out what machine it is.

System80 machines need a few mandatory ground mods. Once they are done, the machine is VERY reliable. Check out the guides on Marvin's site;

http://www.marvin3m.com/fix.htm

Plenty to check out - especially the system 80 repair guides.

I really like working on system 80s !

what's the problem with the machine - and what is the title, Daniel ?

As Nino says, once the grounding is sorted they are bullet proof. I did a Black Hole three or four years ago and in all that time the only problem was a single chip failing soon after the ground work was done, and it's been faultless since. If your mate is local I'd be happy to lend a hand if you like.

Well the ROCK pinball has arrived ive been through the marvin guide testing the coils all the rectifiers etc but as for testing the power supply im stuck.  Ive tested the 5v supply which is fine but there doesnt seem to be a power supply board for the other voltages?  Marvins says about system 80 and 80a  but to me it read 80b only uses the 5v supply?

 Any ideas?

 Plus everyboard in the backbox were brocken of there mounting points id say its been dropped but on a good note there was no battery and no sign of acid damage yipee

System 80b Power supply is not multi purpose. If 5 volts reads ok - then check the other voltages from the transformer board in the cabinet. If you read further on in Clays guide - You will find it there

Well ive done all the ground mods. Coils get power when game over relay its pressed. Displays have voltage to the board and the 5v is to the cpu.  Going by clays its a dead cpu.  There is a section on replacing the reset circuit has any one done this?
